November Favorites

November Favorites

It’s December already! Does anyone else feel like this year just went by too quick?

All you beautiful people following me on Instagram will already know I have been eating and shopping my heart out in Japan all of November so I have some cutesy awesome favorites to share with you all. Also if you don’t follow me on Instagram, you should because I post lots of pictures of good food, aesthetically shot makeup up(or at least I think so) and all of my shopping adventures especially shopping bags made to pose on gunpoint. 😀

At this point in life if you ask me whats the one makeup product you use to make yourself look less like a zombie and more like a human woman I would rapidly answer lipstick. I just feel it can instantly lend some life without the fuss of eye makeup because who wants to keep rubbing them off every night and then get more wrinkles in the process. #Aintnobodygettingyoungerhere

My absolute favorite lipstick this month has been Mehr by MAC which is a pink nude matte shade that I picked up from MAC during my short holiday in Dubai few months back. It is a super gorgeous shade and I have been wearing it like every single day.IMG_4534

Dry skin has been a battle I have been fighting for a while now. I used to have normal/combination skin all through my growing years and then I moved to Japan. Few winters later I was given an un-welcomed gift of dry skin so I have been struggling to find the right skin care products to use. One such discovery was my Chanel Hydra Beauty Nutrition (Review HERE). However I was still testing out a lot of different brands of face wash until I accidentally stumbled upon Burt’s Bees. All I keep thinking about it is why I didn’t know of it sooner. In my opinion it is strictly for people with dry skin because of just how hydrating it is. Finding this product has been a huge relief for me since being under 10 degrees after a whole year needs some extra getting used to.IMG_5876

After graduation I have had the chance to get back to reading (things that do not involve notes and textbooks). I have a huge list to catch up and I have been making slow yet steady progress. I am waiting for an interesting amazon book haul to arrive already because I can’t wait to share it with you guys. Lately, I see myself getting back to reading non-fiction books and I have been thoroughly enjoying it. I am huge sucker for anything and everything that remotely sounds like “intelligence”.

I caught up on this book ‘How Starbucks Saved My Life.” with a cup of Starbuck’s hot mocha because I am awesome like that! 😀 Honestly I wouldn’t say this book is going to get your attention from the word go to the last sentence however if you are anything like me and are interested in reading about imperfect people and imperfect situations bringing in heartwarming moments and lessons that define a life well lived, I would recommend checking this one out. If you did not understand a word of what I just wrote, don’t read it. 😛IMG_5216

When I moved out of Japan last year I had given off all my winter wear except a few favorites so I had to pick some essentials over the month so I did not freeze and die. One of them was this rabbit slippers I got from Forever 21. How cute is that!! Apart from being heart breakingly cute it really keeps my feet warm. It’s a win-win situation. 🙂

I have been bingeing on Mexican food because I had missed it so much. I know going crazy for Mexican food in Japan is pretty odd but there no place to get any back in Sri Lanka so I made use of the opportunity.IMG_5873

Also it is the final week for all you people at school, so if you need some moral support here’s a post I made a while back about how I used junk food as a stress-buster during exam week back in Uni. 😉

Is any of the above a favorite of yours? What has been your favorite lately? Let me know in a comment below.

Keep Smiling lovelies! Xx

An Evening at the Mall: Food and Mini Shopping Haul

An Evening at the Mall: Food and Mini Shopping Haul

Since I’m in Japan, shopping and food sort of rule my life whenever I’m not lost in oblivion unleashing my creative energy. So yesterday late afternoon was spent at my favourite mall Lalaport Yokohama where I ate food I didn’t have to (someone should be counting the damn calories) and stuff I don’t really need. #shopaholicproblems and I can’t even justify the food because I ain’t even a foodie so I’d just hand over the credit to my crazy family for that one.

So What we Ate:

Nacho Cheese Fries (Cheese and fries in one plate…aint that close to heaven, I shall take a moment to Thank God for this blessing)

A Day at Tokyo Disney Sea

A Day at Tokyo Disney Sea

I spent the whole of yesterday at Disney Sea with 3 women from my gigantic family, Aunt, Cousin and Sister-in-law. And yes I’m back in japan,**wohooo** just for a short holiday though. I really wanted to put up this post last night itself (as in before midnight strikes and its officially a new day) but I was soo tired after the day that I kept dozing off after typing every sentence. As a result I’m posting this up a day late.

I chose the Donald duck day passport 😛 (more like grabbed it)

Devouring My Last Week in Japan

Devouring My Last Week in Japan

I have perhaps dwelled on way too many occasions how my years in Japan helped me look deep into the untapped parts of my genetic code and find myself. I have somewhat lived with the misconception that change is bad but that was the thought of child who resisted change, resisted the unknown. Years later in a foreign locale I became the most evolved me that has ever been. I evolved to accept change because perhaps that’s the only constant around.

But do you know finding oneself doesn’t necessarily suggest the involvement of wonders, miracles and superficial animated creatures, rather it lies in simple things(at least that’s how I think it is). Food played a surprisingly rather important part in teaching me to sit back and take a sip of all what life has blessed me with. For the first time since I was born I learnt to enjoy food, be grateful for it and take life with a pinch of salt. I learnt to rely on food while I stressed myself during exam week, I learnt to try new cuisines/dishes(most of which I have come to love) and I found that pancakes on a dewy morning is perhaps one enchanting experience.

So when my time in Japan came to an end, I thought I should go have my ‘until next-time’ moments at all my favorite places. I couldn’t think of any other way to say goodbye…

1. The Best Cheesecakes

This place in Lalaport, Yokohama was our go-to place whenever we were hungry/exhausted after a day of shopping. 20140802-232107-84067452.jpg

6 Signs That Show You Have Reached Adulthood!

6 Signs That Show You Have Reached Adulthood!

Its been months since I officially became an adult and/or of legal age all around the globe. However, this adulthood thing just doesn’t arrive in a ribbon tied package early morning on your 21st birthday and therefore you hardly know when it’s arrived (mostly because we have our nose stuck up in fairy world). Therefore we all kind of need to take the time out to sit back ponder whether we are an adult yet.

So I decided since I am here all grown up and all (pshffft! 😉 )  I’m going to make life a tad bit easier and list down the 6 signs that I feel tells us that adulthood has arrived! Read more

Cherry Picking and a River Bank Picnic!

Cherry Picking and a River Bank Picnic!

This weekend was family time entangled with an overdose of nature. It dazzles how nature beat any so-called man-made structures any day with its breathtaking beauty. We visited a very suburban part of Japan in the Yamanashi Prefecture where there were cherry farms were found. We pay per person and get to eat any amount of cherries that we pick.

We did some cherry picking, eating and gloating until we were too fruitfully full to go on.It was quite interesting. 20140614-173356-63236156.jpg I found a red cherry! 🙂

Exam week and the 5 junkfood I can’t say ‘NO’ to :/

Exam week and the 5 junkfood I can’t say ‘NO’ to :/

Last day of another crazy semester which means I went through a rather painful final exam week (more like month) and the only thing that tries to help your sanity is food. Yes, while everyone is pumping your pressure and the complex brain keeps increasing its complexity its food that soothes your mind. Not just any kind of food but junk food in particular. Its junk food that sits there giving you company while you turn your eyes red staying up all night or gives you the much needed energy boost when you forgot to eat your last two meals working on that madness of an assignment. *sigh* the life of a college student! And I have a list of five junk food in particular I just can’t say NO to because they are amazing! Yes they are absolutely bliss!!!

1. Burgers

20140411-153627.jpgI absolutely just love my burgers!!! McD, KFC, Burger King or anything that remotely looks like any of them and I am in. I genuinely get offended when people I’m close to eat burgers and forget of me. Like seriously how is that even possible!!

Because chocolate is good for you!!!

Because chocolate is good for you!!!

Perhaps one of the most beautiful streets in Japan giving every architect a platform to show off. I love walking down the street where the Omotesando Hills is located in Omotesando (of course). A swift visit to a few stores around, we halted at this one chocolatiers ‘Max Brenner’s‘ where I’ve always wanted to try. However, the Japanese custom of queuing and my island impatience just do not always work. Unlike its usual long probably more than 200 people long queue, on this warm sunny day the queue happened to be shorter. We had to test our patience for like only 30 minutes( YAY -_- ). But somethings are worth it and this experience at Max Brenner’s was surely worth it. I think Max Brenner’s should be in every chocoholics bucket list because they let you celebrate chocolate and even make them look too cute that it hurts!

So I order this dish called ‘Munchies’ which is waffles with whipped cream and two flavors of ice cream with chocolate overdose of course 😉 If anyone does visit this place, I recommend this dish for sure!

Frozen

Frozen

Nature has so much beauty to offer and always manages to leave you awestruck. But there’s one phase in nature that I am especially fascinated by, which is the transition period from one season to the next. May it be summer to fall or fall to winter or winter to spring, they are all equally endearing and beautiful. But what I saw over the weekend has left me dumbstruck in awe at nature once again.

My large and extended family set out on another ski trip managing to  find snow even mid spring. We went to a place called shiga Kogen in Nagano around 300 km from Yokohama. Check out the map HERE

So back to what really took my breath away… It was the transition of seasons I saw while my long journey. As we ascended up the majestic mountains I saw a transition, where the lower mountains filled with brown/green trees with sakura in shades of pink sprinkled around and higher up the mountains still had snow, a lot of snow, some looked like cookie n cream ice cream (as described my 12-year-old cousin) and some just pure innocence.

By the time I reached the hotel I fell sick with a fever, and not wanting to get myself feeling worse(especially during final week) I decided not to ski spending my hours asleep while everyone enjoyed skiing (my bad 😦 ) However, I managed to click some interesting pictures along my journey.

The Ski resort we were at was called Shiga Kogen Olympic Ski Resort and I did not know until I saw the frame below in the hotel lobby that this was where Nagano 1998 Olympic winter games was hosted.
